At
Melody Acres we specialize in Reining Horses as well as
Paints. Our passion and focus involves starting young futurity
prospects or re-making seasoned veterans. We have produced
several Champions in the Paint,
Reining, Pinto, Arabian and
Warm Bloods. Our methods are modern and therapeutic and
involve means of communication that produces quick results
without stress.
Our
Training Centre is supervised on a 24 hr
basis.
Our Training
Programs are designed around the horse and rider to ensure
both progress at the same rate. We welcome all disciplines
into our program.
Training
Philosophy or Methods are not easy to explain as they may vary
from horse to horse. So, in a few paragraphs I will share with
you a little of our program that works for us.
First
I like the horse to be responsible for themselves, by teaching
them to do what they are supposed to do on their own. Let them
find out themselves, which means keeping as much of the
horse's natural
ability as possible, while molding them into a
finished product. I try to keep the "man-made look"
out, which in turn keeps a horse happy doing their job.
I
have worked with several older horses that had previously been
trained in a discipline they were not suited for. So, in these
findings the individual was never going to get where they were
supposed to or be responsible for themselves.
Also,
because of the Therapeutic work I do, some of these horses
were not in for Training but for Therapy. They have been so
misunderstood and after a little while in my program, they
sigh in relief, as if to say..."FINALLY SOMEONE
UNDERSTANDS ME!". They get to be the INDIVIDUAL they were
meant to be, not made to be something they mentally or
physically can not handle. Again, they get the chance to find
themselves and want to work at it naturally.
The
key is to understand how a horse thinks and learns. the whole
idea in this program is communication. The rest is knowing how
to apply those skills in a language horses understand.
